We are committed to providing care that respects patient dignity, privacy, and safety at all times. In line with national guidance from NHS England, we operate a chaperone policy for consultations, examinations, and procedures.
A chaperone is a trained member of staff who may be present during an examination or treatment. Their role is to support you, safeguard your wellbeing, and act as an impartial observer while maintaining your comfort, dignity, and confidentiality.
We will offer a chaperone wherever appropriate, particularly for intimate examinations. This offer will be made in advance where possible and again at the time of your appointment. You are free to accept or decline a chaperone at any time.
We recognise that individual preferences vary, and we will make every effort to respect your personal, cultural, or religious needs, including preferences regarding the gender of the chaperone. If you would like a chaperone and one is not immediately available, you may choose to reschedule your appointment.
All chaperones are appropriately trained and understand their responsibilities, including maintaining your dignity, recognising signs of discomfort, and raising any concerns if necessary.
